Introducing our new Earth Editor!

Please welcome our  newest Assistant Editor, Ashlee Goite, who will be posting new and interesting content within our Earth Current! Ashlee is a yoga teacher, writer, and animal-lover currently residing in Dallas, Texas. We asked her to answer a few questions for us to introduce her to the Yoga Modern community.

What does your yoga practice look like, on and off the mat?

I strive to live my life according to ahimsa as much as I can, as much as I know how. I practice yoga daily, whether on the mat or off it, incorporating awareness, compassion and love as often as I can into every interaction, although not without a full dose of missteps and failings. But, I believe that it is the awareness of missteps and mistakes that is a greater teacher than any perceived, effortless, flawless display.  Awareness and compassion are key to evolving into a better human being.

What inspires you?

I love reading, and spending time in the outdoors with my family–my husband and our two dogs–and traveling wherever and as often as I can. I just finished The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan, which I highly recommend to anyone and everyone interested in learning more about where the food comes from that lines the supermarket shelves, which we then put into our bodies.

What made you want to tap into the Earth Current at Yoga Modern?

Through my yoga practice, I have learned that true yoga is so much about compassion and caring for others.  In order to truly live yoga, I believe that one must extend compassion and caring toward all living beings, encompassed by our one Mother Earth.  By contributing to the Earth Current here at Yoga Modern, I intend to ask questions and raise issues about the current state of the planet, to encourage readers to question the reasons behind current environmental situation and take practical actions to make our space in the universe healthier and more harmonious.

We can’t wait to read what Ashlee shares with the community here at Yoga Modern. If you would like to apply for an Assistant Editor position or contribute as a writer, check out our call for contributors here.
